The certificate of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) or Korean proficiency (TOPIK) is an optional document, which means you may apply for GKS without it. However, if you are an applicant of highly competitive country, Korean embassy or Korean university may require a certain level of language proficiency. Moreover, in some cases, those with high language proficiency may be given preferences during the selection.
